In the Oosterpark, a 12-hectare park, you’ll find lots of greenery, ponds and streams. Here you’ll find a paddling pool for children and many hiking trails. Several festivals take place in the summer and you can enjoy the English landscape style here. The park was constructed by the municipality of Amsterdam in 1891 and is located east of the canal belt. In the park you’ll find the National Monument of Slavery and a monument in memory of the filmmaker and columnist Theo van Gogh who was murdered in the Linnaeusstraat in 2004.
