Museum of the Tropics

The Museum of the Tropics was founded in 1864 as Colonial Museum. Today it’s primarily a museum about people and world cultures. Here you will learn more about living traditions and the history of different world cultures. The collection contains a large collection of ethnographic artifacts from tropical and subtropical areas, mainly from the former Dutch overseas territories. The museum has 450,000 objects, including traditional and modern (art) objects, sound clips and and around 230,000 photographic images. The museum is located in a beautiful monumental building from 1926.
